Valerie Baltzer, RYT 500, is a certified yoga and pilates teacher. Valerie began studying yoga under her mentor Karen Jiwa in 2004, became AAAI-ISMA certified in yoga under John DeMinico in 2005 and pilates method under Mike Rickett in April 2007, and completed her 500 hour studies under Beverly Burt, E-RYT 500, in July 2007. Valerie continues to follow the Krishnamacharya lineage, but has been humbly influenced by so many great teachers! Valerie is co-founder and manager of the Kai Yoga Arts Registered Yoga Teacher Training School.
· How to analyze why a student can or cannot do a yoga posture.
· The basic anatomy of the bones, ligaments and muscles involved in yoga postures. The emphasis will be on the joints in a yoga posture, determining maximum range of motion, and carefully selecting alternatives.
· How to apply these anatomical and kinesiological principles to yoga, so that the benefits of the asana can be achieved at all levels of flexibility. These concepts are universal to all styles of Hatha Yoga.
· An introduction to Yin Yoga—a quiet, gentle practice intended to stimulate the energetic meridians of the body by safely stretching the connective tissues.
A NOTE ON LUNCHBREAK: Light, vegetarian refreshments and hot tea will be available. However, you will want to either pack a more substantial lunch or plan to order-in. We will try to eat together as a group.
